Makawao Steak House Abruptly Closes its Doors

“For over 40 years, the Makawao Steak House has been the place for upcountry residents to enjoy home-style food,” a now-disconnected webpage from the restaurants most recent owner, Hoku Nui Maui, reads.

In an 8 p.m. Facebook post on Monday the restaurant announced its closure.

The post read: “After much deliberation, it is with great regret that we made the decision to close the Makawao Steak House. The business had been operating at a financial loss for two years and it was no longer financially feasible to do so.”

In 2017 Maui News reported that the four-decade-old Makawao Steak House transitioned into a farm-to-table restaurant with locally grown meat and produce supplied by its new owner Hoku Nui Maui.
