Good Eats: 808 On Main

In the heart of Wailuku town sits a rustic eatery showcasing delectable sandwiches, hearty salads and classic piping hot paninis. Known for their world-famous sandos in Kihei, this sister restaurant to 808 Deli is a tad more formal, serves cocktails, wine and beer along with a well known burger bar for hungry eaters. 808 On Main (Street) is a casual spot for a frothy beverage, delightful pupus and a great place to relax.

First and foremost the decor is industrial meets farm house with a lot of wood elements and some low hanging lights for ambience. Unique accents give it a sense of hipster, meets elegant and reclaimed wood.

On a Saturday you’ll find enticing drink specials all day, that include $5 Mimosas and Bloody Mary’s, along with $6 locally brewed Kohola Brewery pale ale and amber ale, what a deal! We started with the Mediterranean Nachos, which were exceptionally flavorful, loaded with yummy toppings and a great concept. Taking crunchy pita chips and loading them with seasoned ground lamb, topped with feta and tzatziki was a wonderful combination of flavors and textures. This pupu is really spot on!

We also tried some of their sandwiches, which they are really known for: Rippie which is provolone, swiss, tomato, pesto and avocado. This is was a great sandwich, really decadent. There was a tad too much pesto spread (which was combination of pesto and mayo) for my taste, but it was delicious and I would order it again.

We also delighted in a kids menu item, the Grilled Cheese, which came with a nice side of carrot sticks perfect to cut the richness of the cheese and add some freshness to our palate. This is also a wonderful child-friendly establishment that has a nice open air feel to it and it’s casual enough that children would still feel comfortable sitting and enjoying a meal as a family.

The Bloody Mary was clearly made from scratch and was highly reminiscent of a gazpacho soup with extra herbs. It was hearty, flavorful and rustic like the decor. The brew was great also and we love to support local. Kohola Brewery is the only micro-brew in Lahaina and it’s a great find when you can enjoy one of their refreshing local craft beers.

Overall, the service was great! Friendly, attentive, well informed. The food items ordered were very generous in size and packed on the flavor which we loved. I would return in a heart beat and come hungry so I can try one of the burgers with a brewsky next time.
