Police release body-cam video of a Wailuku officer-involved shooting

Police released the body-cam video Monday of an officer-involved shooting in Wailuku Sunday.

The video shows officers firing on 26-year-old Kaulana “Toji” Reinhardt.

According to police, he was wanted for an outstanding warrant and to avoid being pulled over in Wailuku, Reinhardt led police on a high-speed chase that ended in that shootout.

“Throughout the investigation, we’d actually been receiving information from confidential informants as well as people that were close to the subject, on the fact that he was carrying a gun and he was gonna shoot it out with police if he was ever stopped,” Chief Clyde Holokai of the Maui Police Department said.

Court documents show Reinhardt had a one million dollar warrant out against him for first-degree murder.

He was also wanted for crimes committed back in 2015 like Terroristic Threatening, Burglary and Attempted Criminal Property Damage.

As the case is still under investigation, the two officers involved have been placed on paid leave.
